College Basketball Career
Thabeet, who moved to the United States from Tanzania, was a standout player at Cypress Christian School in Houston, Texas, before joining the UConn Huskies in 2006. During his freshman season, he started in all 31 games, averaging 6.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He was selected to the Big East All-Rookie Team as well as the Hispanic College Fund Classic All-Tournament Team. In his sophomore season in 2007-2008, Thabeet led the Huskies in blocks, averaging 10.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. He was named to the Big East second team and the Big East Defensive Player of the Year.UConn Huskies: Hasheem ThabeetHis numbers continued to improve in his junior season, taking in 13.5 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game. He helped the Huskies finish the season with a 31-4 record, including 15-3 in the Big East.
