Plot Summary
In year three at Hogwarts School of Wizardry we find Harry at the Dursleys being miss treated more then ever with the visit of his aunt. Having had enough he flees the house after blowing her up into a balloon only to be spooked by a large black dog and surprise arrival of the Knight Bus, in which he travels to London and the Leaky Cauldron. Harry spends the last two weeks of his summer vacation at the Leaky Caldron, spending time with his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger and in the streets of Diagon Alley. Before his departure for school he learns that Sirius Black the escaped prisoner from Azkaban may be after him and want to kill him.
The school year starts out as normal as it possibly can when there are dementors guarding the school and its grounds on the look out for Black. Once again there is a new Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher – Professor Lupin who just so happens to also be a werewolf. The dementors have a very strong effect on Harry so with the help of Professor Lupin he learns some very difficult magic and produces a patronus.
While on a Hogsmeade visit under his invisibility cloak he learns that Sirius Black is the man accused of killing his parents by giving up their hiding place to Lord Voldemort, at which time he vows that if Black finds him he will be ready to avenge his parents. The plot thickens when Harry receives a new broom in the morning mail after his was destroyed during a Quidditch game held during a bad storm. Not knowing where the broom came from Hermione steals it and turns it into Professor McGonagall fearing it may have been sent and jinxed by Black.
In the mean time Hagrid is fighting for the life of his beloved pet hippogriff Buckbeak, who is accused by Malfoy of being a threat and harmful to the students of Hogwarts. Learning that Buckbeak is to be put to death the three friends venture to Hagrids hut to console him, while there Ron discovers his pet rat Scabbers is indeed alive and well. Having to leave Hagrids so they wouldn’t get caught out of the castle by Professor Dumbledore and company they start the walk back to Hogwarts when Scabbers bites Ron and runs off only to be caught again by Ron but this time there is also a large black dog after him. The large dog grabs Ron and drags him into a secret passage under the Whomping Willow, which of course Harry and Hermione have to follow. At the end of the passage they discover Ron wounded from the bite of the dog holding Scabbers and yelling it’s a trap. Turns out the black dog is Sirius Black who also happens to be an Animagis meaning he can change into the dog anytime he wants, Professor Lupin shows up and together with Black explains who is really behind the murder of the Potters. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0304141/plotsummary
