Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second installment in the seven-book series by JK Rowling; about the destiny of boy wizard Harry Potter. Synopsis

Harry is spending the summer with the Dursley’s who are being slightly nicer to him out of fear for his wizarding friends, and have given him “Dudley’s spare room” instead of making him live under the stairs. One night the Dursley’s have company over and he has been ordered to stay in his room and not make a sound. Well Harry has no problem staying away except when he gets to his room he discovers he has a visitor; a house elf by the name of Dobby who desperately tries to talk Harry into not going back to Hogwarts for his 2nd year. Harry will not hear of it and states he will return to Hogwarts and that it is the only place he belongs. Dobby doesn’t like this at all and proceeds out the bedroom door and goes into the kitchen where he makes the nights dessert float into the parlor and smash down on the female guests head and disappears with a snap of his fingers. Uncle Vernon is furious and locks Harry in his room and puts bars on the window. Having not heard from their friend the Weasley boys come to the rescue in a flying car ripping the bars off the window and whisking Harry away from his prison.

The time has come to hurry off to the station and catch the Hogwarts Express to return to school, however there is one problem the pillar in which they run into to get to Platform 9 ¾ has been blocked and Harry and Ron are left without a way to get to school. Ron comes up with the idea of using the flying car to get there, so the boys load their belongings into the car and off they go in search of the train. They arrive at school along with the train but run into problems when the car gets a mind of its own and crash lands into the Whomping Willow. The tree fights back and knocks the car clear of its branches only to try and smash it while it is on the ground. The car takes off kicks the boys and their stuff out and motors off into the Forbidden Forest.

Strange things begin happening at Hogwarts shortly after the school year starts, roasters are being killed, people and animals are being petrified and messages in blood are being written on the walls. Rumors start circulating that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened and the monster within it will start killing those that are not True Blood wizards. Harry, Ron and Hermione being who they are start investigating and find out the Chamber of Secrets was supposedly built by Salazar Slytherin (one of the founders of the school) and it can only be opened by his heir. When people discover that Harry can speak parsletongue they naturally think he is the heir of Slytherin and is the one that opened the chamber. At this point the trio goes on the search for the true heir and decides to mix up some polyjuice potion. They do this so they can get into Slytherin’s dorm posing as Crab and Goyle. They figure this way they can get Malfoy to talk and find out if he is the heir.

Attacks continue with students now in the hospital wing petrified and Hermione is among them, it just gets worse when Professor Dumbledore is suspended thanks to Malfoy’s father and Hagrid is taken to Azkaban accused of opening the chamber. Then one evening while sitting with Hermione in the hospital Harry discovers she is gripping a piece of paper. Carefully removing the paper from her hand Harry and Ron put together the puzzle she had figured out before being attacked. On their way to Moaning Myrtles bathroom they come across a huge crowd of students and teachers surrounding a wall that has a message in blood written on it. The message reads “her skeleton will lie in the chamber forever.” The boys over hear Professor McGonagall announce it was Ron’s sister Ginny that has been taken. Determined now more than ever to find the chamber they rush to Professor Lockhart’s office only to discover the cowardly Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher planning his escape instead of doing what he is so well known for. Synopsis Continued

Having guessed that Moaning Myrtle was the victim of the basilisk (a snake and the monster that has been attacking people), the boys make Lockhart go with them at wand point to discuss the issue with Myrtle. She tells them how she died and where the eyes had appeared, Harry looks at the faucet she had pointed to and sees a snake on it, imagining that the snake is real he speaks the language of snakes (parsletongue) and the sinks begin to move opening the way to the chamber. Forcing Lockhart down into the hole first the boys follow and begin to make their way through the tunnels below the school. As they make their way they come across the shed skin of the giant snake. Lockhart decides to take this opportunity to take Ron’s wand and cast the spell on him that will destroy his memory, however there is a big problem, Ron’s wand is broken from the run in with the Whomping Willow and the spell backfires and hits Lockhart instead and cause a bit of a cave in so Harry is left alone to continue on.

Finally coming to the door of the chamber Harry once again speaks parsletongue and all the locks and latches begin to move and open the door. Once in the chamber Harry sees Ginny lying on the floor very still and cold, dropping his wand he runs and tries to wake her. He looks up to see Tom Riddle entering the area and tells him he has to help get Ginny out, Tom at this point picks up Harry’s wand and begins to explain he is no longer Tom Riddle but Lord Voldemort and shows Harry this by spelling out his full name and turning it into the anagram which is “I am Lord Voldemort.” He then explains that he is a memory which had been stored in the pages of the diary and as Ginny dies he grows stronger, and he will return to be the most powerful wizard to ever live. Harry jumps up and yells Professor Dumbledore is and always will be the most powerful wizard. At this Riddle releases the basilisk and sets it after Harry. Harry begins to run and falls but Fawkes (Dumbledore’s Phoenix) arrives bringing with him The Sorting Hat and blinds the snake. After getting away from the snake momentarily runs back to Ginny and to where the sorting hat lies, as the snake begins to approach him once more he sees a glint coming out of the hat and pulls from it the sword of Godric Gryffindor. The fight continues and eventually Harry stabs the snake through the roof of its mouth killing it. However when he did this one fang lodges in his arm releasing its poisons. Riddle begins to gloat happy in the fact that Potter will soon be dead as well. Harry yanks the fang from his arm and stabs the diary, in doing so he destroys it and Riddle fades away as Ginny slowly awakens. Harry is close to death now because of the poison but Fawkes begins to cry and his tears hit Harry’s wound healing it and saving Harry’s life (Phoenix tears have healing powers).

After making it back out of the chamber Ron and Harry are summoned to Dumbledore’s office and although they had broken many school rules were given an award for saving the school. Ron is sent out of the office to send an owl to Azkaban for the release of Hagrid, while Harry stays behind to speak more with the professor. Lucius Malfoy storms into the office angered that Dumbledore was back and he brought Dobby with him. Upon seeing Dobby Harry say “so this is who you serve” and understands what has been going on. After Malfoy leaves the office Harry asks the professor if he can have the now destroyed diary. Finding Malfoy in the hall he accuses him of putting the diary in the hands of Ginny, Malfoy tells him to proof it and tosses the diary at Dobby. Harry tells Dobby to open it when he does he finds a sock and proclaims “master has given Dobby a sock master has freed Dobby.” Malfoy is now really mad taking out his wand and pointing it at Harry he says ‘’Avada’’ and with that Dobby steps in front of Harry and sends Malfoy flying down the hallway.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0295297/synopsis
