  • Harry Belafonte is a musician, actor & social activist of Jamaican ancestry who helped popularize Calypso music during the 1950s and 60s with hits such as "Day-O (Banana Boat Song)" and "Mama Look at Bubu." Along with his musical career, Belafonte was also a working actor and had roles in a number of successful films and television shows. Throughout his career, Belafonte has also been a tireless political and social activist, having actively participated in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and the fight against AIDS in Africa during the late 1990s. Belafonte has also been a vocal critic of many of the Bush Administration's foreign policy decisions.
