Hardan al Jaburi

Suspected Al Qaeda bomb maker Hardan al-Jaburi was killed by U.S. forces during a raid on December 10, 2008. The U.S. military reported that the soldiers shot al-Jaburi in self defense after he confronted them with an AK-47. However, relatives of the slain man claim that al-Jaburi was singled out by U.S. forces, who then shot him in cold blood and cut off his finger. The military is reportedly conducting an investigation into al-Jaburi's death.CNN: Army investigates troops' killing of al Qaeda suspect (December 31, 2008)

Conflicting Accounts

Following an air strike, al-Jaburi and his brothers surrendered to the U.S. Forces surrounding the farmhouse. According to the American soldiers, al-Jaburi then went back into the house and reemerged armed with an assault rifle. Al-Jaburi's family members, however, claim that he and his brothers were forced to take off their clothes and lie on the ground. The soldiers, they say, then ordered al-Jaburi to go back into the back into the house. According to al-Jaburi's brother Nurri: "He was told to turn the lights on. And the moment he turned on the lights, the soldiers opened fire, and then dragged him deeper inside the house."CNN: Army investigates troops' killing of al Qaeda suspect (December 31, 2008)
