Data Storage
A hard drive is a device for long-term data storage. It features a spinning platter upon which data is digitally encoded. Massive amounts of data can be stored on modern hard drives, exceeding 1 TB of capacity. Hard drives typically last 5-10 years, upon which they often fail completely, causing data loss. Due to this multiple hard drive configurations are built with RAID, to provide fail-over and to help prevent data loss.
