Happy New Year, Charlie Brown! is a 1986 semi-musical animated television special based upon the Peanuts comic strip, created by Charles M. Schulz.
Happy New Year, Charlie Brown! revolves around the character of Charlie Brown and a book report that he is assigned on War and Peace, written by Leo Tolstoy. Charlie Brown must have the report completed by the end of his Christmas break.
Throughout the 30-minute special, Charlie Brown is distracted by dance lessons and a New Year's Eve party. Charlie Brown finally finishes his book report the night before he's scheduled to go back to school. Much to his dismay, he receives a D-minus. He then faints at his desk when his teacher reveals his next book report has to be on Crime and Punishment, written by Dostoyevsky.
