  • Happy Mondays are an alternative rock band from Manchester, England, led by erratic frontman Shaun Ryder. Though the band originally formed in 1980, its first full-length album didn't appear until 1987, the distinctively titled, Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out). By the end of the decade, the band had been instrumental in the development of the funk-influenced rock that became known as the "Madchester" sound, and the 1990 track "Kinky Afro" hit #1 on the US Modern Rock charts. Between 1993 and 2004, Happy Mondays were on an extended semi-hiatus, during which time Ryder and percussionist Bez played in the group Black Grape. After a 15 year break from recording, the band released Uncle Dysfunktional in 2007.
