Early Career
Hank Williams, Jr started out playing his famous father's songs while being strongly promoted by his mother, Audrey Williams with a recording debut in 1963 at the age of eight years old. The song was Long Gone Lonesome Blues one of his father's classics.Fortunately, there were many other musical influences for Hank Williams, Jr such as: Johnny Cash, Fats Domino, Earl Scruggs and Jerry Lee Lewis. They taught him how to play different instruments and do different styles which gave him the desire to expand himself and even write his own music. Outlaw Image
Often referred to by his nickname, Bocephus, Williams, Jr. became a part of the "Outlaw" country movement of the late 1970s along with fellow country singers Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. While it took a while for Williams to be accepted by the country music mainstream, his popularity soon made it so that he couldn't be ignored. Since then, Williams has become recognized as one of the most unique performers in country music. -
Mountain Accident
Montana's Ajack's Mountain was the site of a terrible climbing accident in 1975 when Hank Williams, Jr. fell 442 feet sustaining serious injury. He had to endure extensive surgery along with learning to speak and sing again. It was two years before Hank could again record music.
