Hank Steinbrenner is the son of George Steinbrenner and is part-owner of the New York Yankees baseball team. As his father has begun to get older, Hank has assumed many of the day-to-day operations of the team, including personnel decisions and public relations.
Early Life
Born in 1957, Hank Steinbrenner has been involved with his family's businesses and interests his entire life, serving as the chairman and director of the Minch Transit Company and the vice-president and director of the Mid-Florida Hotel Corporation in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1999, Hank became a senior executive with the Yankees.
Controversy
Like his father, Hank Steinbrenner is outspoken and not afraid of stirring up controversy. In his first few years as the co-chairman of the Yankees, Hank openly criticized manager Joe Torre, dismissed Red Sox Nation as an ESPN marketing gimmick, and briefly demanded that ace reliever Joba Chamberlain be made a starter.
