  • Cornerback Hank Poteat plays professional football in the National Football League for the Cleveland Browns.

  • College Football Career

    Prior to playing in the NFL, Poteat played college football with the Pittsburgh Panthers. He recorded 136 tackles, 10 interceptions, 1,917 kick return yards, 90 rushing yards and 50 receiving yards to earn All-Big East honors.
  • NFL Career

    After college, Poteat was selected 77th overall in the 2000 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He made his professional debut that same year, playing in 15 games with the Steelers. He played two additional seasons with the Steelers, then was waived in 2003. Poteat signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing just a single game before he was waived again. He spent the 2004 off-season with the Carolina Panthers, but was released before the season began.

    In 2004, Poteat signed with the New England Patriots. He played just over two seasons with the Patriots, winning Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005. Poteat joined the New York Jets in 2006 and went on to record his statistically best season in 2008, with 41 tackles, two interceptions and one sack.
