Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany with a population of about 1.8 million people, is a major transportation hub and a huge media and industrial center. It's located on the Jutland Peninsula in northern part of the country. The city is also one of 16 federal states and has 7 boroughs, 105 quarters, and 180 localities (though these are merely geographic subdivisions). Hamburg also has more than 40 theaters, 60 museums, and 100 music venues/clubs. It is often referred to as the sports capital of Germany, and is the site of numerous festivals.
