Halo Wars Mission 13 Beachhead

This is Part 13 of our complete Halo Wars Walkthrough, featuring Halo Wars Mission 13 Beachhead.

Mission 13: Beachhead

  1. This starts as an escort mission. Your only units are Anders and Forge. Forge can be downed, but you need to get Anders safely to the LZ (Landing Zone).
  2. Black Box Location: You'll find the box near the second teleporter at the end of the mission. Before entering the teleporter, take a hornet directly East. The box is up on the nearby cliffs.
  3. The LZ is just North of where you start. Escort Anders to the location.
  4. Once you arrive, the flood destroy the pelican there. The mission isn't going to be that easy.
  5. Some ODSTs join your group. They'll be a big help against attackers.
  6. Retreat for now and take your army slightly South-East to a teleporter. Enter it.
  7. The teleporter takes you to a new location. There is a beacon here that you must defend.
  8. A timer appears at the top of the screen. You need to defend for one and a half minutes until a new pelican arrives.
  9. You won't do much defending here. The covenant only send in a few infantry. Just listen to the character dialogue.
  10. Once the timer is finished, a pelican picks up Anders and returns her to the ship. You'll lose Anders for the rest of the mission, but you gain the control of 3 spartans. It's a good trade.
  11. Your work isn't done on the ground. Take your army South-East to find some supply crates. Collect them for more resources.
  12. Keep traveling South-East to find a covenant base.
  13. Kill the units here first. Your spartans and ODSTs are enough take them down easily.
  14. Once the infantry and vehicles are gone, attack the base itself. Ignore the warehouses and go straight for the main building. Don't forget to use your infantries Y abilities to take it down quickly!
  15. Create a base here.
  16. Collect the nearby supply crates while your station is building.
  17. Wait until your base is up and running. Now create 2 supply pads.
  18. Immediately construct turrets in all 4 spots around your base.
  19. Your new objective in the mission is to hold all 4 bases at once. Before going to the next, you'll want adequate defense at this one.
  20. Go slightly South to find a flood vent. Kill it. After it's gone, you'll see a flood bomber pass by. Kill that too. This triggers an optional objective.
  21. Optional Objective: Kill 10 Bomber Forms
  22. This is the objective that leads to the skull. Don't worry about it too much right now.
  23. Build a reactor at your base. Upgrade your supply pads as soon as it finishes.
  24. Upgrade your main station into a fortress. You'll need the extra building spaces that a fortress provides.
  25. Time to finish building up your base. As you get supplies, create buildings in this order: another supply pad, a field armory, a second reactor, and finally an air pad.
  26. Some covenant forces will attack your base soon. Not a big deal though. Your turrets and army will easily defend against them.
  27. Take an ODST just North of your base. There is a forerunner supply elevator here. Have the ODST enter it. His presence in the elevator will net you resources slowly.
  28. Wait until you have 1200 supplies and then upgrade one of your reactors.
  29. At your air pad, research the wingman upgrade. You'll eventually be training hornets.
  30. Get another 1200 supplies and upgrade your second reactor. You should have a power level of 4 now.
  31. The flood vent South of your base will respawn. Various flood units come out of this vent. This includes bomber forms. Make sure you keep an eye out for them, you need to kill 10 so that the skull appears.
  32. Upgrade chaff pods at your air pad.
  33. Train 6 hornets once the upgrade is finished. Take 2 of your spartans and board them onto a hornet.
  34. TIP: Make sure you leave 1 spartan on foot! There is a story sequence later where you'll be at a huge advantage if you do!
  35. Now train 2 vultures. Make sure to upgrade their mega barrage as well.
  36. You have a huge army now. Before you leave though, upgrade your turrets into large turrets. This requires 2 upgrades at your field armory.
  37. If you haven't noticed, the covenant send an endless supply of banshees at your base. Wait until your turret upgrades are done before taking your army elsewhere.
  38. TIP: Don't forget that you can specialize your turrets as well. It's not a bad idea to upgrade each of them into a rail gun
  39. Take your army North-West towards the teleporter from earlier.
  40. East of the teleporter is a light bridge. Bring your army across to find a second covenant base.
  41. Your army is simply huge. The weak covenant forces will be massacred by your hornets and vultures.
  42. Aim directly for the main covenant base. Once it's down, kill the various cannons and vehicles around it.
  43. When the area is secure, create a station where the covenant base was.
  44. Defend your fledging base. You need to keep your army close by until you build turrets in all 4 sockets around your base. Make sure you upgrade each turret into a rail gun.
  45. You don't really need to build any other buildings at this base. You can make some supply pads if you want, but your resources should be high already.
  46. Now travel South-East across the light bridge. This triggers a cutscene. It seems that a covenant scarab has been abandoned.
  47. Save the scarab from the nearby flood tentacles. Remember how you kept 1 spartan on foot earlier? Well now have him hijack the scarab. With the scarab your army becomes unstoppable.
  48. TIP: There is a hidden achievement here. Kill 25 units with your new scarab to get the achievement: Beaming With Pride.
  49. Take your army slightly North to find the third covenant base.
  50. This really isn't a fight. That new scarab of yours can take the base down by itself. With your army, you'll slaughter it within seconds.
  51. SECRET: To get the skull you need to kill 10 flood bombers. They spawn infinitely, so after enough time you'll have all 10. Once you kill your tenth bomber, the Pain Train Skull appears just North of where you started the mission. It's guarded by a ton of flood units. So take your hornets and send them straight past the flood. Don't fight! Just pick the skull up and run away.
  52. Set up some turrets at your new base. After you claim the skull, train more hornets to replace any that died getting it.
  53. As soon as they're done training, it's time to finish off the covenant.
  54. Take your army North of your new base. There is a new teleporter here. Go ahead and enter it.
  55. This takes you to the last covenant base.
  56. There is a covenant army waiting for you, so get ready for a fight!
  57. You'll probably lose some units here, but your scarab should easily overpower the enemy forces.
  58. TIP: If you want, you can send out a carpet bomb over the enemy army at the start of the battle. This will cripple them.
  59. The hard work is done once the enemy army is finished. It's too bad they gave you that scarab, because a spartan controlled scarab is nearly unstoppable!
  60. Now move West and destroy the last covenant base. Your scarab will make short work of it.
  61. The mission ends as soon as you build your 4th base. Create a station to complete the level.
