Plot
After discovering a large ring-shaped space station, the United Nations Space Command ship, "The Pillar of Autumn," is attacked by a Covenant fleet. With the ship badly damaged, Captain Keyes is forced to crash land the ship on the surface of the ring while ordering other members of the crew to use the escape pods. The player takes control of the Master Chief, a genetically engineered cyborg. Master Chief is accompanied by Cortana, the only ones to survive their escape pod's rough landing. Once on the ring, they learn more about the origin of the Halo and why the Covenant forces are fighting so hard to control it.
