Code named "Cottonball" during the production phase, the Avalanche Map is a large, icy re-imagination of the Forerunner Power Station level in the Halo: Combat Evolved multiplayer map, "Sidewinder" included with the downloadable Legendary Map Pack for the sci-fi first-person shooter Halo 3. It has the same overall U-shape as "Sidewinder", a mid-section joining the bases, and near-parallel bases separated by rock. The station draws power from the densely compacted ice that continuously builds behind the station prior to falling into the ocean below. The map basics are the same with some noticeable additions like the man cannons. More noticeably missing are the interior tunnel between the bases and the elimination of ladders in the base interiors. The other two new maps included are Ghost Town and Blackout.
