Whether awake or sleeping, hallucinations can infiltrate a person's mind and alter their perception of their surroundings. Hallucinations can be audio or visual, but generally refer to the mind manufacturing something that is not real.University of Maryland Medical Center: Hallucinations
While there are many causes of hallucinations, some types are perfectly normal and others are matters of concern.
Hallucinations can become problematic when the mind perceives such falsities to be real and interfere with one's daily routine, occupation, family and life in general.
