Witches have been associated with Halloween since the origins of the holiday. Halloween witch costumes are always popular for trick-or-treating or your Halloween party. According to legend, witches gathered twice yearly, on the eve of May Day (April 30) and All Hallow's Eve (October 31st), to attend a celebration hosted by the devil.Holidays.net: The Witches' Caldron
Halloween Witch Costume Tips
Dressing like a witch for Halloween doesn't always mean you need an elaborate, store bought (and potentially expensive) Halloween costume. Before you rush out and spend a lot of money on a witch costume, check your closet - you might be surprised to find you have a costume already. For a good witch costume, think black: consider pairing a black dress or a long robe with black shoes or boots. If it's chilly, black pants or a sweater will help you keep warm as you venture out trick or treating or to a Halloween party. Once you have the basic foundation, add a broom and, most importantly, a pointy black hat. You may need to purchase the black witch's hat if you don't have one, but given that you've assembled most of your witch costume with items you already own, but the expense may be greatly lowered. For an extra spooky effect, consider adding face paint or makeup to your getup.
Witch Costume Variations
If you don't want to go the traditional witch costume route this Halloween, you do have some options. Why not dress as a witch character from books or movies? If you're a Harry Potter fan you can dress in a wizard or witch Potter costume. You could also consider going as a "good" or white witch, like Glinda from The Wizard of Oz.
