Pick Your Designs
Pumpkin carving patterns can differ in many ways. Some people like to carve their pumpkins free hand while other prefer to trace a pattern or stencil onto their pumpkin then carve it out. Some people paint patterns on their pumpkins with water based paints. Patterns can be scary and frightening or show emotions such as happy, sad or even mad and scared. Some people like to carve scenes like a witch flying on her broom or haunted house.
Carving Tools
While some people prefer using regular kitchen knives to carve their designs into their pumpkins, there are kits available for children. These kits include plastic knives, plastic pointers to poke holes in the pumpkin and a metal serrated knife. Most of these kits also include pencils and stencils.
Tracing your Design
In this video we learn how to carve a pumpkin from Shana at Expert Village. She teaches you how to use a sharpie marker and trace out your pattern on to your pumpkin before cutting it out. Remember to clean your pumpkin seeds and roast them in the oven for a great tasting snack!
