Christmas ornaments were first popularized in the United States by families emigrating from Germany and England in the 1840s. In the 1890s Woolworths founder F.W. Woolworth began selling German-manufacturer Christmas ornaments in his chain of five-and-dime stores. Japan was next to enter the ornament manufacturing market in 1925, followed closely by Czechoslovakia.
