  Seemingly frivolous holidays that have been overly commercialized are sometimes referred to as "Hallmark Holidays." Examples of such holidays are Valentines Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day. In calling a holiday a "Hallmark Holiday," one refers to the commercial nature of the day and its promotion by companies such as Hallmark.
