Career
In their early years, Hall and Oates signed with Atlantic Records. Their albums weren't successful with the record company, as they struggled to find their sound while alternating between folk, soul, rock and pop.
After leaving Atlantic Records and joining RCA Records, their first album titled Daryl Hall & John Oates was a success. The self-titled album featured the single "Sara Smile", which became a top 10 hit in 1976. The song "Rich Girl" became their first number one hit in 1977.
In 1981, four of the singles from the album Private Eyes reached the top 40 and by 1983 Hall and Oates had become one of the biggest pop rock groups in America. In 2003 Hall and Oates were voted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.BBC: Hall and Oates... (November 7, 2008)
