The Robert Stanfield International Airport is small compared to some, but it is well appointed with a coffee shop (Tim Horton's), a book store, Island Beach Crafts for those last minute "Nova Scotia" style gifts, and of course, Clearwater Lobster, for those who must take the best treat Nova Scotia has to offer home to their loved ones! http://www.hiaa.ca/default.asp?mn=70.1.235.245 Clearwater packs for the lobster for travel for you.
Stanfield has only one terminal.
The airport has a chapel, children's play area, waiting areas, a greeter's booth (great for questions about the area and the airport itself), a tourism Nova Scotia booth, a lost and found, several car rental desks ( Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty), meeting rooms, a Royal Bank ATM, and a money exchange.
There is plenty of parking, with over 1,700 spaces, both short and long term. The long term parking has a security patrol. There is a shuttle bus provided by Airbus, which will take you into Halifax or Dartmouth (cost is approximately $12 one way). http://www.worldtravelguide.net/airport/330/airport_guide/North-America/Halifax-Stanfield-International-Airport.html
There are two hotels in the area, the Quality Inn Halifax, which is 0.6 KMs away, and operates a shuttle to/from the airport, http://www.airporthotelhalifax.com/ and the Hilton Garden Inn, which is 3 KMs away and also offers a shuttle. http://hiltongardeninn.hilton.com/
Halifax International Airport History
Named for Robert Stanfield, the 17th premier of Nova Scotia, (yes, of that Stanfield family, you might be wearing a pair of the undershorts now) http://www.stanfields.com/, the airport was opened in 1960. Located slightly outside of the metro Halifax area, close to the small town of Enfield, and an industrial park. http://www.novascotialife.com/chartermembers/halifax-robert-l-stanfield-international-airport.
The drive from Halifax to the airport takes approximately 1/2 hour.
The airport has been under renovations since 1998, with extensive renovations to the amenities in the airport, the runways and construction of an observation tower.
