Hairspray is a 1988 John Waters film about a "pleasantly plump" 1960's teenage girl who dreams of being a dancer on a popular local dance TV show. In 2002 Waters adapted the film into a Tony Award winning Broadway musical; and in 2007, the musical was adapted back into a film starring Nikki Blonsky and John Travolta
My Mom's a Man
While the role of Turnblad's mother Edna Turnblad has always been played by a man in drag. In the first film by the drag queen Divine, in the Broadway rendition Harvey Firestein, and in the 2008 revival John Travolta filled out the role.
