Hairspray is a haircare product generally used on dry hair to hold or to fix a style. It is not as strong as a gel or mousse, but is designed to hold hair for long periods of time. If hair is not washed thoroughly after use, hairspray build up may cause dry scalp or dry, brittle hair.
History
Aerosol hairspray originally consisted of a compound of carbon, fluorine, and chlorine (a chlorofluorocarbon, or CFC), which was later found to be a hazard to the ozone layer. The formula was changed and currently consists of alcohols and hydrocarbons.
Warnings
- Due to the alcohol content in hairspray, it should not be used near open flames due to potential fire danger.
- If hairspray is sprayed in the eyes, they may begin to burn and should be rinsed well with water immediately.
