A hair dryer is a small appliance used to dry and/or style the hair. They are also known as blowdryers. They can blow either hot, cool or cool air to assist in drying or styling the hair. Most come with the ability to switch between high and low settings, changing the strength and amount of air that is released. Although most are powered with electricity, travel dryers are also sold which use batteries. Caution should be used when a hair dryer is used for prolonged amounts of time, it may cause damage to the hair, making it dry and brittle.

Most hair dryers have a high electric resistivity wire coil which heats with electricity. They use a fan that blows air past the coil, allowing for the hot hair to dry the hair.
