Hadil Emad was shot by U.S. troops on January 1, 2009, while crossing the al-Jadriya Bridge in Baghdad, Iraq. U.S. military authorities maintain that she was acting "erratically", and did not respond to their warnings. Backstory
The al-Jadriya Bridge crosses over the Tigris River in Baghdad, and is located in an area just outside of the Green Zone in Baghdad. The shooting occurred two hours after the U.S. had handed over control of the Green Zone to Iraqi troops, while U.S. and Iraqi forces were on a joint patrol.
