Guitar Rising

    • Release date: Late 2008
    • Platform: Mac and PC
    • Beginner levels are designed for non-guitar players
    • Difficult levels will challenge even advanced guitar players
    • Does not teach the theory behind guitar playing
    • Teaches users to read guitar tablature, not musical notes
    • Won the Developers' Choice Award at the 2008 Austin Independent Game Conference
  • Guitar Rising is a video game much like Legends of Rock, but it utilizes any real electric guitar instead of a guitar-like controller. By following on-screen visual cues, users can learn to play guitar while playing in a fun, familiar interface.

"Guitar Rising has six rows which notes travel down; the six rows represent the six strings on your guitar. Inside each note is a number that tells you which guitar fret to press. For example, if a note is traveling down the top row with the number "2" inside it, this cues you to play your top guitar string with the second fret pressed down. This is in essence guitar tablature notation that moves across the screen."GameTank CEO Jake Parks
