About the Game
The story sequence of Guitar Hero Smash Hits ties in to the game's Career Mode, similar to that of the other more recent Guitar Hero games. Players are challenged by the "God of Rock" to play at various Wonders of the World venues. After successful completion of each venue, players earn clothing that may be used to customize their avatars. All of the other World Tour modes are also present in Smash Hits, including single player and band career modes, and the 8-player "Battle of the Band" mode.
Similar to Guitar Hero World Tour, Smash Hits features support for four instruments: lead guitar, bass guitar, drums, and vocal. Master recordings are used for each song, and the songs have been developed with gameplay features in mind, such as open bass strumming and full band accessibility. The game also includes "Expert+" mode introduced in Guitar Hero: Metallica and its use of double-bass drum pedals.
Finally, Smash Hits has a Music Studio creation mode that is compatible with the "GHTunes" custom song-sharing service within World Tour and Metallica.
