Unlike Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Metallica doesn't follow the career of the band chronologically. This is because some of Metallica's earlier songs are decidedly difficult to play and would quickly alienate gamers if encountered early in the game. Instead, players will form their own band and be mentored by Metallica, who invites them to open for the band on tour.
