The development of Guitar Hero World Tour (originally titled Guitar Hero 4) was announced after the Activision/Vivendi merger in December 2007, the sequel to 2007's popular Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. It will be very similar to Rock Band, including new instruments: bass, microphone, and six-piece drum set with two cymbals. Cross compatibility of instruments between the two titles is unknown as of this writing.
Gameplay
Players will be able to to create their own songs and share them with other players online via Guitar Hero Tunes service. Custom tracks will not include vocals. Players will additionally have the ability to design their own musicians, album art, and instruments. Additionally, the game's new guitar is to feature a new "touch-sensitive neck slide." While few song titles have been confirmed, Def Leppard, The Answer, Van Halen, The Eagles, Sublime, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, Muse, and Linkin Park are suggested to be making appearances on the tracklist. All of the songs included in the game are said to be master tracks.
The game is being developed at Red Octane and Neversoft for a late 2008 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.
