Guild Wars is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) created by ArenaNet. It is set in the fictional world of Tyria.

Players can choose between a cooperative role-playing component and competitive player vs. player (PvP). The Guild Wars sequence was released in campaigns, each of which must be purchased to gain access to the game elements. All campaigns are linked to one game world, however each is independent and has their own storyline. Players who own more than one campaign may move their characters freely from one to another.

For 2009, Guild Wars upgraded their Live Team, and said they will produce more substantial updates. The first update included increased account-based storage and account-based changes to the Hall of Monuments.Massively.com: Guild Wars announces plans for 2009 (January 15, 2009)

1. Random Arena: Features four-on-four matches with randomly selected teams.
2. Team Arena: Features four-on-four matches with teams that are player-managed.
3. Heroes' Ascent: Teams of eight compete in a continues tournament.
4. Guild Battles: Two guilds battle in the guild halls and stage tactical battles, in an attempt to kill the opposing Guild Lord.
5. Alliance Battles: 12 players are aligned with one of the opposing Kurzick and Luxon factions teams to fight an opposing team to gain new territory for their faction.
6. Competitive Missions: Randomly assembled teams of players compete in the Kurzick/Luxon war.
7. Hero Battles: Two players, each controlling three NPC heroes, compete to gain control of points.
