Growing Pains was about the Seaver family, headed by father Jason (Alan Thicke) and mother Maggie (Joanna Kerns). At the time of the show's debut, stay-at-home fathers and working mothers were becoming common, and the show reflected that.While Maggie went to work as a reporter, Jason, a psychiatrist, stayed home to watch their kids: bookworm Carol (Tracey Gold), rambunctious Ben (Jeremy Miller) and the mischievous Mike (Kirk Cameron), whose misadventures were arguably the main draw of the series.
As the kids grew older, Jason and Maggie had another child, Chrissy Seaver (Ashley Johnson), and took in a homeless teen, Luke Brower (Leonardo DiCaprio) to maintain ratings.
In 2000 and 2004, two Growing Pains reunion movies were broadcast on ABC.
