Grinderman is a garage rock band fronted by Nick Cave. Their debut album Grinderman was released on March 5, 2007.
Grinderman was born as a side project to Cave's primary outfit Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. While touring with The Bad Seeds in 2005, Cave began to compose music on the guitar, an instrument he plays infrequently. The newness of the guitar gave the material a rawer feel than the music he had been composing for The Bad Seeds. In recording this material, Grinderman was born.
The band made their debut at the 2007 All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in Somerset, England and then toured as a opener for The White Stripes in the U.S. The band is a headliner at 2008's Roskilde Festival in Denmark.
The band's recording projects are currently on hold while Cave supports the 14th Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds' release Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!, but a second Grinderman album is planned.
