Usually associated with Hip-Hop culture, grillz (also known as fronts) are worn over teeth, usually custom fitted. Most grillz are made of gold, silver, or platinum, sometimes adorned with small jewels or rhinestones.

Rappers started the grillz look by doing just a few gold teeth here and there. They really became popular when more artists began making a row of gold that stretched across the whole mouth.

Grillz gained even more popularity when the rap artist Nelly released his single "Grillz" in 2005.

Mouth grillz aren't just for rappers anymore. Johnny Depp, and Madonna have been spotted wearing them and they have become a popular trend for teens and young adults.
