Greyhound Dog

The greyhound is the fastest dog in the world, famous as a racing dog and known for its distinctive physique. Lesser known, however, is its sweet nature and suitability to be a household pet.

The lifestyle of racing dogs can be taxing, with illness and accidents frequently leading to death. A number of groups exist to arrange and promote the adoption of retired racing dogs and to lobby for the end of the sport (and business) of track racing entirely. The greyhound was first bred thousands of years ago for hunting, and in recent centuries, the breed has been maintained primarily in the UK.

For centuries, greyhounds have been renowned as the fastest dog breed. Traditionally used for coursing, greyhounds have appeared on historical materials where they are most often depicted chasing a variety of game such as stag, deer, rabbit, hare and other fiercer animals including boar and bear.http://www.greyhoundclubofamerica.org/greyhound-type.html

Disposition

Greyhounds in general are sensitive and gentle, and can make exemplary family pets. They also crave attention and are very intelligent. Greyhounds are very good with children, but - as with any dog - younger children and dogs should always be supervised.
