Early Life
Gregory Owen Zaun was born in Glendale, California on April 14, 1971. He attended St. Francis High School. Greg Zaun was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 17th round of the 1989 amateur draft. MLB.com: Gregg ZaunPro Career
After spending 6 years in the Orioles minor league system, Gregg Zaun made his Major League debut in 1995 as a back-up catcher. The Orioles traded Zaun to the Florida Marlins as a player to be named later, completing an earlier trade. Zaun was a member of the Marlin 1997 World Series Championship team and also spent 1998 with the Marlins before being sent to the Texas Rangers. In 1999, Zaun was part of a blockbuster deal, when he was traded along with Juan Gonzales and Danny Patterson to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Frank Catalanatto, Francisco Cordero, Bill Haselman, Gabe Kapler, Justin Thompson, and Alan Webb. Zaun would continue to bounce around Major League Baseball, with stops in Kansas City, Houston, Colorado, and Montreal. In 2004 Zaun sign a free agent contract to play for the Blue Jays, where after years as a Major League journeyman, he received an opportunity to play everyday.MLB.com: Gregg ZaunScouting Report:
