Gregg Allman is a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, along with his late brother Duane. The two formed the band in 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida. Allman was previously in the bands The Escorts and The Hour Glass.

Allman's Georgia home was burglarized on December 27, 2008. A pistol was stolen as well as a collection of silver dollars and some of Allman's unreleased live recordings. Everything was recovered except for the pistol. Gregg and Duane Allman formed the southern rock Allman Brothers Band in 1969 in Jackson, Florida. The original members consisted of Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe Johanson. Their debut album, The Allman Brothers Band, was released in August of 1969. The band has since achieved great success having been awarded eleven Gold and five Platinum albums.
