Greg Smith is a Major League Baseball starting pitcher for the Oakland Athletics. Smith was born on December 22, 1983 in Alexandria, Louisiana. Smith attended Louisiana State University. Upon graduation he was drafted by Arizona Diamondbacks.
Rookie Year
Smith went to the rookie team of the Missoula Osprey workin his way up to double A team of Lancaster JetHawks. Smith's next minor league step was up to double A team of the Tennessee Smokies, shortly moving on to the Mobile BayBears another Double A team. Come 2007, the Arizona Diamondbacks traded Smith along with 5 other players including Dana Eveland and Carlos Gonzalez to the Oakland Athletics. Smith then pitched for the Tucson Sidewinders, a triple A team.
Debut in Majors
The Oakland Athletics called Smith to the majors making his debut April 9, 2008. He only gave up one run and six hits winning over the Chicago White Soxs 2-1.
