Greg Maddux is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher who played with the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves for eight and 10 seasons respectively, retiring in 2008 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
On May 3, 2009, the Cubs symbolically retired uniform number 31, which had been worn by both Maddux and previous Cubs pitcher Fergie Jenkins. MLB Career
Maddux was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1984 and played in his first Major League games in 1986. In his first full season, Maddux compiled a disappointing 6-14 record, but he rebounded in 1988, winning 18 games. Over the next sixteen seasons, Maddux never won fewer than 15 games. In 1992, Maddux won his first of four Cy Young Awards as a member of the Cubs, but the next season he signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Braves.In his first three seasons with the Braves, Maddux won three Cy Young Awards, giving him four consecutive pitching titles as he helped lead the team to a 1995 World Series win over the Cleveland Indians.MLB.com: Greg Maddux
