A zoo in Japan is the home of three polar bears whose fur has turned green due to swimming in a pond full of algae. The polar bears changed color in July 2008 at the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens because the water they swim in was changed less frequently during the summer months due to water-conservation efforts. The polar bears will turn back to their natural color when the weather cools down in November and the algae subsides.ABC News: Algae-dyed Polar Bears Puzzle Japan Zoo Visitors (September 7, 2008)
