Two different events held during the week of Barack Obama's inauguration were referred to as the "Green Inaugural Ball." On January 19, 2009, the night before Obama's inauguration, Al Gore hosted an invitation-only event, "The Green Ball: Inauguration of a New Green Economy," at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. Performers included Maroon 5, Will.i.am, Melissa Etheridge, John Legend and Michael Franti. On January 17, 2009, another "Green Inaugural Ball" was held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in DC, featuring live entertainment by Wyclef Jean. Tickets were $500 for general admission and $1,000 for VIP admission.Official Site: Green Inaugural Ball
