If we say that Bigfoot was the first Monster Truck, then we have to say that Grave Digger is by far the most famous. While Bigfoot invented the sport of Monster truck racing, we can effectively say that Grave Digger perfected it, and that Grave Digger is the one truck responsible for the growth of this sport. It is much like saying Ozzy Osborne created Heavy Metal music, and Metallica came along and perfected it. http://www.monsterjamonline.com/trucks/Truck.2003-10-22.3411
Back in the early 1980’s Dennis Anderson, the creator of the truck now known as Grave Digger, got the itch to go mud bogging. He built a hybrid 1951 Ford Truck with a Chevy engine and started competing in events. When his competitors started telling Anderson that their newer, bigger, more expensive truck would beat him, Anderson famously said "I'll take this old junk, & dig your grave", with that Grave Digger was born. http://www.offroaders.com/directory/monster_trucks/GraveDigger.htm
Denis would continue racing his dull orange Grave Digger truck on the mud bogging circuit for several more year. As he began to get more serious about his racing he decided to change the truck. He wanted to stay at the top of his sport so he changed the truck to the body style of all future Grave Digger’s, a 1951 Ford Panel Van. At this point he also changed the color scheme to Blue and Silver. In 1984 a Monster Truck was suppose to crush some cars failed to show up for the show. Anderson went to the show promoters and offered to do it in his Grave Digger, and with that Anderson had found himself a new sport.
Shortly thereafter Anderson had Fred Bumann give his truck a new paint job. While he initially was skeptical of a Black truck with Green Flames, once the paint job was finished Anderson knew he had hit onto something special.
Grave Digger is one of the most decorated Monster Truck in the industry, and has won three world titles; capturing Racing world titles in 2004, and 2006, and a Freestyle World title in 2000.
