Grass-Fed Meat or pasture-raised meat refers to meat from animals, such as cows, buffalo, sheep or goats, that have been raised on foraged food such as grasses as opposed to being fed a diet of grain-based food.
Fast Facts:
- Cows more easily digest grass than corn or other grains
- Grass-fed meat has lower fat content, and therefore cooks more quickly than grain-fed meat
- Not all "grass-fed" meat is raised only on grass; some are grain-fed and grass finished, or grass-fed and grain finished
- Grass-fed does not necessarily mean organic
- Grain-fed meat is more often associated with E. Coli contamination than is grass-fed meat
