Graphology

    • Some graphologists have evaluated the presidential candidates
    • Graphology is not technically a science
    • The term "Graphology" was popularized in 1875 by French priest Jean Hyppolyte Michon
    • Is not completely accepted as a science in the U.S. although some European countries use it more frequently
  • Graphology is the study of handwriting as a tool for psychological evaluation, or personality profiling. The theory is that personality traits can be identified through handwriting, such as ego, fears, wants and illnesses.
  • Candidates Evaluated

Several graphologists have studied the handwritten signatures of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain. They shared their findings with AFP in an interview released on May 18, 2008.

According to Shiela Lowe, McCain's signature shows that he is impulsive and has a short temper.

Roger Rubin claims Obama's signature shows he has a strong ego while Arlyn Imberman says he "doesn't want you to know him too well".

The graphologists seemed to agree that Clinton is straightforward and a perfectionist.

  • Validity

Graphology is often considered a pseudoscience as it has not been proven to be a legitimate science. Graphologists look for certain characteristics in letters and believe they correlate with certain personality features.

Graphology should not be confused with forensic document examination which is a science used within the courts and law enforcement systems.
