Graphics Tablet

A graphics tablet allows one to draw images with a stylus that are input to a computer and displayed on the computer's monitor.

Fast Facts:

  1. Early models called "spark" or "acoustic" tablets
  2. 1st modern design was the 1964 RAND Tablet, or "Grafacon" (Graphic Converter)
  3. 1st home computer graphics tablet: 1984 KoalaPad (designed for the Apple II)
  4. Passive tablets both transmit and receive electromagnetic signals
  5. Active tablets must only receive signals as their self-powered styluses can generate and transmit themselves
  6. Known to relieve various occupational overuse syndromes such as Carpal Tunnel
