Grapefruit Essential Oil is extracted by cold pressing the fruit rinds of Citrus paradisi. The grapefruit tree is grown in sub-tropical climates primarily in the Western Hemisphere. The strong, clean fragrance of grapefruit essential oil and the astringent nature make it a natural cleanser.
It has also been used in Aromatherapy, Holistic and Homeopathic treatments. Grapefruit and its essential oil can interact with many prescription drugs, generally intensifying the effects of the drugs.http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/21/health/21grap.html?ex=1300597200&en=61e8347bdb9afac9&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
History
Grapefruit was originally bred in Barbados sometime before 1750 by cross-breeding the Jamaican sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) with the Indonesian pomelo (Citrus maxima).http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0JAW/is_87/ai_n25336559/ The resulting fruit and seeds were eventually exported to Florida and commercially cultivated in Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California. The essential oil was developed from the fragrant rinds.
