Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a free-roaming third-person video game developed for the PlayStation 2. The game was later ported to the Xbox and PC platforms. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is perhaps the most controversial game in the Grand Theft Auto series due to the "Hot Coffee" hack.
Storyline
Set in a different city than previous Grand Theft Auto games, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has players take on the role of Carl Johnson (CJ) who returns to the West coast for his mother's funeral. He finds his family and former gang in complete disarray. The player must help CJ get everything back in order and avoid the cops in the process.Wikipedia: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Gameplay
The gameplay in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is very similar to that of other games in the Grand Theft Auto series. It's a third-person action game that includes shooting and driving elements, as well as a vast open-world environment. The player can choose to take on missions or simply play around the world. San Andreas was the first game in the series to introduce character customization options like different clothing, haircuts and tattoos.Wikipedia: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Stirring Up Controversy
While all of the games in the Grand Theft Auto series have drawn controversy for their violent and sexual content, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas drew the most thanks to a third-party modification to the PC version. Dubbed the "Hot Coffee" mod, this mod unlocked a graphic sex minigame that was not normally accessible. When word of the content spread, the ESRB re-rated the original version of the game Adults Only (AO), but Rockstar removed the questionable content and re-released the game to keep the Mature (M) rating. In addition, the controversy spurred action in politcal and legal circles well, resulting in a class action lawsuit.Wikipeida: Hot Coffee Minigame Controversy
