Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is the first game in the Grand Theft Auto series to appear on the Nintendo DS. The game was released on March 17, 2009. It is also currently being developed for the Sony PSP, and is set to release in the third quarter of 2009.

First announced during Nintendo's E3 2008 press conference, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is being developed by Rockstar Leeds, the same studio that developed both PSP Grand Theft Auto games. The game is set in Liberty City, the same location as Grand Theft Auto IV, but will have an entirely original story.

The game is fully 3D takes advantage of touch screen controls for things like breaking windshields, hot wiring cars and tattooing friends. Even though the game will appear on the kid-friendly DS, Rockstar says they won't be watering down the content.

Rockstar's president Dan Houser said, "Nintendo wanted us to make GTA, and we wanted to make a game on their platform. They didn't want us to make a GTA for kids, and we weren't interested in making a game we wouldn't normally make."IGN: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Preview
