• The game Grand Theft Auto IV will be released at midnight on April 29, 2008 at a number of stores, including select branches of Best Buy, Gamestop, Walmart and Game Crazy. Gamestop will allegedly have the most stores open; CNN estimated the chain will open "a couple of thousand" stores at midnight.

• Grand Theft Auto Background

  Contrary to the numbering, Grand Theft Auto IV is the ninth game in Rockstar Games' popular long-running franchise. The games have received criticism and controversy for their alleged violence and sexism. Despite the controversy, many celebrities have voiced roles within the game.

• GTA IV Scenario

  Eastern European immigrant Nico Bellic has moved to the United States, lured by his cousin Roman's promises of easy wealth and achievement of the American dream. Roman, it turns out, is not fabulously wealthy, as he claimed in his emails to Nico; he runs a small taxi service and wants Nico to help him. Roman owes money, and is in part looking to Nico for protection, as Nico was once in the military. More plot threads are revealed throughout the game.

• GTA IV Setting

  GTA IV is set in Liberty City, the game's version of New York City. There are five regions one can go into during the game: Algonquin (based on Manhattan, and named after a tribe of Native Americans), Broker (based on Brooklyn), Dukes (based on Queens, and like Queens, a title for British nobiity), Bohan (standing in for the Bronx), and Alderney (based on New Jersey, and like New Jersey, named after one of Britain's Channel Islands). While the map is smaller than the one for San Andreas, because of the level of detail developers have said players will not find anything lacking. Players familiar with New York City will find many landmarks in the game that are modeled after real-life spots in the city. For example, the "Statue of Happiness" stands in for the Statue of Liberty, "Francis International" is based on John F. Kennedy International Airport, and BOABO is modeled after the Brooklyn neighborhood DUMBO (but relocated to Dukes). Astute players will note that one borough of real-life New York City is missing. "The Forgotten Borough", Staten Island, has been left out of the game, as developers have been quoted saying they thought Staten Island would not make a fun game-play location.
