Areas of Liberty City
Liberty City, its name a reference to New York's Statue of Liberty, is based on four of the boroughs of New York City and parts of New Jersey. Various areas on the map represent various locations in the New York City area, and they are named appropriately. "Dukes" is based on Queens (Duke and Queen both being titles in British aristocracy), "Algonquin" is Manhattan (Manhattan being a word in the Native American language of the region, and Algonquin the name of an Eastern Native American tribe), "Alderney" is New Jersey (Alderney]] and Jersey are both British Channel Islands), "Broker" is Brooklyn, and "Bohan" is the Bronx. The fifth actual New York City borough, Staten Island, long referenced as "The Forgotten Borough," does not appear in the game.Map Size
The total area of the map is smaller than the previous San Andreas, but developers are pleased that there is limited wasted space. While smaller, the newly designed Liberty City is far more detailed and the largest individual city in the Grand Theft Auto series.
